Finding Spaciousness

Continuing my quest to find or rather create spaciousness within the intense complexity of my hedgerow paintings. Today was a good day, I think I might be close to securing an approach that works. I used an A2 drawing made in the hedgerow to work into and used other "live" drawings and some photos as further references. I began with a warm up exercise of 4 x 2 minute paintings on A6 in response to the photos and my memories of the place. This got me mixing the appropriate colours and deciding upon my mark making tools for the larger work. I'm pleased with the progress that I made on the larger work and was able to stop long before any over working began to creep in which meant it retained its freshness, clarity and energy. I'm pleased with the close up sections that I photographed in terms of how well they mirror some of the energy and mark making in some of my mini "speed" paintings. This painting is not "finished" - or perhaps it is! Anyway, I've now started to work into another one alongside knowing this is the key to keeping things fresh.
