Translating a Process and Symbolising Renewal.
This is my first response on canvas to working from photographic landscape overlays which I've constructed as a starting point.
The overlays combine photography with paint using several photographs torn up and collaged back together to form a basic composition in response to place. I have then worked over them in acrylic paint to develop an active painterly surface thereby energising the image, bringing to it a sense of immediacy and physical presence.
There is a metaphorical aspect to creating new work from the torn up and deconstructed imagery in that it has become a symbol for regeneration and renewal.
